‘Continued genocide in Gaza most unprecedented disaster of century’

Tehran, IRNA — The continuation of the genocide in the Gaza Strip has sounded the alarm for the most unprecedented disaster of the century, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian says.

Amirabdollahian made the remarks on the situation in Palestine in a letter to the secretary-general of the United Nations, the secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the head of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), and foreign ministers of Islamic countries and other states.

We are witnessing the continued inability of the UNSC to halt the war against the Gaza Strip and the West Bank of Palestine because the US intentionally prevents the body to take any moves by resorting to veto rights, he noted.

With the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, it is necessary to find practical ways and take serious action by the international community to support the Palestinians and reach immediate cessation of military attacks against the Gaza Strip to end the ongoing crisis, he further noted.

The ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip and Rafah, coupled with war crimes in the West Bank, along with the Israeli regime’s obstruction of humanitarian aid and food supplies to the enclave, and their attempts to starve Gazans in order to perpetuate the genocide and harm women and children, have raised the alarm for the most unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe of this century, he emphasized.

After the massacre of over 31,000 Palestinian civilians in recent months, the Israeli regime seeks to inflict a gradual and painful mass killing of Gazans by preventing immediate humanitarian aid and food supplies from entering the Gaza Strip, he underscored.

Therefore, in these important circumstances, the Secretary-General of the United Nations is expected to once again prevent the current humanitarian disaster of the contemporary century by resorting to Article 99 of the Charter of the United Nations and other possible mechanisms, he added.
