Iran finishes construction of key highway to northern provinces

Rasht, IRNA – Iran has inaugurated the remaining 8.2 km of the Manjil-Rudbar Freeway, which is part of the 138 km Qazvin-Rasht Freeway, in the presence of Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohsen Mansouri and Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash.

The 8.2-kilometer route includes 5 kilometers of bridges and tunnels, featuring the longest highway bridge in the country, spanning 1,250 meters.

This project aims to alleviate one of Iran’s major traffic bottlenecks. Previously, during peak travel times on the Manjil-Rudbar road, people would remain stuck in long traffic jams for 20 to 30 hours. With the completion of this project, people can expect reduced fuel consumption and time savings, among other benefits.

The Qazvin-Rasht Freeway stretches approximately 138 kilometers, with 126.7 kilometers from the Imamzadeh Hashem district to northern Rudbar, and 95 kilometers from southern Manjil to Qazvin, which were completed around 2011. An additional 3.2 kilometers of the freeway were constructed in 2017.

Although the Qazvin-Rasht Freeway project began in 2019, it was 70% complete before the inauguration of the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi. The project has been finalized during the administration over the past two years.

The total expenditure for the Qazvin-Rasht Freeway is estimated at 50 trillion rials, equivalent to 83 million dollars.
