Israel using banned weapons in Gaza: South African lawyer

Tehran, IRNA - A South African attorney in the genocide case against the Israeli regime at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) says the occupying forces are using internationally-banned weapons against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Ziyaad Patel told a meeting convened in Iran’s Central Bar Association in Tehran on Saturday that the Israeli forces are using different kinds of weapons in Gaza, including nail bombs, which are all banned under international law.

The attorney said the ICJ has fallen short of fulfilling its duty in the case brought by South Africa on December 29, calling for efforts to “find ways to achieve our goals” in the absence of a satisfactory conduct by international organizations.

"This (ICJ) court has jurisdiction over war crimes, crimes against humanity, military aggression and genocide. The mentioned cases are the deadly crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza,” he said.

When filing the case with the ICJ, Patel said South Africa presented enough evidence to the court showing the Israeli regime has committed genocide and other heinous crimes in Gaza.

“The Israeli regime must end all its actions in killing the Palestinians and causing severe bodily and mental harm to the people of Gaza in line with its obligations under the Genocide Convention,” the lawyer said.
