Iranian, Tajik FMs hold talks in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah

Jeddah, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin have held talks in the Saudi port city of Jeddah on the sidelines of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC)'s extraordinary meeting on the situation of Gaza.

In the talks held on Tuesday, Amirabdollahian described the two nations of Iran and Tajikistan as relatives, underlining the importance of enhancing bilateral relations.

The foreign minister further expressed Iran’s readiness to fully implement the mutual agreements previously signed by the two sides.

In his remarks, Amirabdollahian said there is good potential for fostering bilateral cooperation in transit, energy, scientific and educational areas.

The Islamic Republic welcomes the continuation of political consultations between the two countries, he said, expressing gratitude to Tajikistan for its supportive stance on Palestine.

For his part, the Tajik foreign minister appreciated Iran’s initiative of calling for an OIC emergency meeting.

Tajikistan prioritizes strengthening of relations with the Islamic Republic, Muhriddin said.

He also called for the expansion of Dushanbe-Tehran ties.

During their talks, the two foreign ministers reviewed the issues related to Afghanistan.

Amirabdollahian left for Jeddah on Tuesday to attend the OIC extraordinary meeting on the situation of Gaza. Prior to his departure, he was seen off by Saudi Ambassador to Iran Abdullah bin Saud al-Anzi.
