‘Unipolarity, bipolarity incapable of managing today’s world’

Tehran, IRNA – The Central Bank of Iran's deputy governor for international affairs has emphasized that structures articulated by unipolar and bipolar international systems are no longer capable of managing the complexities of the current era and that the establishment of the BRICS group has its roots in mutual understanding of the issue.

Mohsen Karimi made the remarks in the first meeting of BRICS economic/finance ministers and central bank governors in 2024, which took place in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The CBI suggests that the BRICS members study the formation of an independent financial infrastructure by the use of the existing potentials, he noted.

The deputy governor called for constant sharing of progress made by the BRICS member states, particularly in infrastructural investment, noting that the CBI proposes an integrated upgrade of financial cooperation among member states through the creation of a financial settlement mechanism as well as a channel for fast and safe exchange of banking information to promote stronger economic ties among members.

As to the cooperation between Iran and the BRICS group concerning the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing, Karimi said that the CBI has put forward the idea of establishing an independent entity in BRICS to pave the way for fighting money laundering and terrorism financing as well as playing an effective role in exchanging regulatory data in line with this goal.
