According to IRNA, road workers and all facilities, including heavy and semi-heavy machinery were dispatched to the cities of Iranshahr, Konarak, Dashtiari, Qasrqand, Chabahar and Nikshahr as well as several other countries and villages upon an order issued by Mehrdad Bazarpash on Sunday.
Following the order, Reza Akbari, the director of Iran’s Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization also traveled to the flooded province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
90 units of heavy machinery have been sent to the southern region of Sistan and Baluchestan and about 20 units from the provinces of Hormozgan and Kerman, some of them provided by private companies, Akbari said.
According to the Deputy Director of the Road Traffic and Transportation Organization, works are underway to restore and reopen the damaged roads.
Earlier on Saturday, Mohammad Hassan Nami, the head of Iran’s national crisis management organization, reported that the rain-triggered floods hit 16 counties and 1,947 villages in Sistan and Baluchestan.
The access road to about 178 villages has been blocked, in some of them there is still water flow and it is not possible to reopen until the water recedes, he said.
