Tehran, IRNA – The following headlines appeared in English-language newspapers in the Iranian capital on Sunday, March 3, 2024:

-- Iran’s thermal power plant electricity generation capacity crosses 75,000 MW

The electricity generation capacity of thermal power plants in Iran topped 75,000 megawatts following the connection of the first gas unit of the Sabzevar Power Plant to the nationwide electricity grid, announced an official at the Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH).
The director general of the macroplanning office of the TPPH pointed to the synchronization of the 183-MW gas unit of the Sabzevar Combined-Cycle Power Plant, and said 29 gas units with an electricity generation capacity of 3,935 megawatts, along with 13 steam units with a generation capacity of 2,136 megawatts, have been connected to the nationwide electricity grid during the current administration, which took office in August 2021.

--  Iran, Russia agree on new energy contracts

Iran’s oil minister and Russia’s energy minister agreed on signing new contracts to develop oil and gas fields.
Javad Owji and Nikolai Shulginov exchanged views on the implementation of oil and gas contracts the two countries signed before on the sidelines of the 7th Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Summit of Heads of State and Government in the Algerian capital Algiers.

--  Iran ready to become Gas hub: Raisi

Iran is ready to become an energy hub and a safe route for distribution and transit of natural gas between producers and consumer markets, President Ebrahim Raisi said on Saturday.
With its vast natural gas reserves, technologies and geographic location, Iran plans to develop bilateral and multilateral relations with gas market countries, the president said, adding that Tehran is particularly interested in countries from Central Asia to the Persian Gulf, and its eastern and western neighbors.

--  Iranian Researchers Produce Eco-Friendly Hydrogen

Iranian researchers have produced hydrogen for nanocone-shaped electrocatalysts through deposition method which reduces the amount of energy consumption in hydrogen production.
“We used the electrochemical deposition method to synthesize cone-shaped nanostructures. In other words, for the first time, we used conical nanostructures for hydrogen production electrocatalyst by electrochemical deposition method,” Qassem Barati Darband, a faculty member of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in the field of materials engineering and metallurgy.

Head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) for knowledge-based products and services export promotion office Muhammad Reza Karimzadeh said the IRAN EXPO 2024 provides a suitable opportunity for the participation of activists working in the field of gems and precious stones.
The activists of this industry will showcase their export potential and capabilities to the visiting foreign delegations.

--  Germany Preparing €7bn Tax Package to Prop Up Economy

Germany’s ruling coalition is stitching together a package of measures likely worth around €7 billion ($7.6 billion) to try to lift Europe’s largest economy out of a prolonged slump, according to people familiar with the planning.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government wants to have the package — which would reduce the tax burden on companies — ready in time to secure parliamentary approval before the summer break, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing confidential negotiations.

--  Iran's Aminzadeh bags gold at Fazza Dubai 2024 World Cup

Ahmad Aminzadeh of Iran won a gold medal with a record-breaking lift at the Fazza World Cup on Saturday.

Aminzadeh triumphed in the +107 kg category, securing a gold medal with a record-breaking of 267kg lift. This victory not only places Aminzadeh at the forefront of his category but also solidifies his qualification for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. His teammate, Mehdi Sayadi, despite a strong performance, narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth with 231kg.

--  Iranian Film Festival returns to Malaysian screens after five-year hiatus

-The 2024 Iranian Film Festival in Malaysia, organized by Iran's cultural attaché office in Kuala Lumpur and supported by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Malaysia, is making its grand return to selected GSC cinemas after a prolonged absence of five years. 

The festival will showcase a diverse selection of six acclaimed Iranian movies, with free screenings exclusively at GSC Mid Valley Megamall and GSC IOI City Mall in the Klang Valley until March 3.

Then, the festival will head north to GSC Gurney Plaza in Penang from March 7 to 10, offering movie enthusiasts a unique opportunity to experience Iranian cinema firsthand on the Malaysian big screen.

--  Iran ready to provide vocational training for Omani workforce

Iran is ready to provide technical and vocational training for 1,000 Omani workers, the head of Iran’s Technical and Vocational Training Organization said.

Speaking in a meeting with Oman’s minister of labor and social affairs in Tehran, Mehrdad Azimi said the country has the capacity to run vocational training courses for 1,000 Omani labor forces.
