Iran’s space program growing fast: Minister

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Issa Zarepour says the country’s space program is growing rapidly.

Zarepour made the comments on a TV program on Thursday, adding that a number of space-related events are slated for the next Iranian year starting on March 21.

Iran has conducted 12 launches over the past two years since President Ebrahim Raisi took office in August 2021, he noted.

The launches encompass research, orbital, suborbital, and operational missions.

As to the recent launch of the “Pars 1” research satellite, he said that the satellite was domestically developed by Iranian experts in collaboration with local knowledge-based companies at the Iranian Space Research Center.

Zarepour outlined plans to enhance Iran's space capabilities, including completing the first phase of a significant space center in southern Iran.

The center is going to be the biggest of its kind in west Asia, the official underscored.

Back in late January 2024, Mahda, Keyhan-2, and Hatef-1 research satellites were put at altitudes between 450 and 1,100 kilometers above the Earth’s surface.
