Iran, Russia kick off 17th edition of joint intergovernmental committee

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Oji and Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak took part in the 17th edition of the joint intergovernmental committee of economic cooperation in Tehran on Wednesday afternoon.

Representatives of both countries discussed actions taken so far in the oil and gas industry as well as cooperation in the road, housing, standard, free trade zones, and other fields.

Oji emphasized that Iran and Russia can expand collaborations in all economic arenas, expressing hope that the Wednesday negotiations with the Russian side would help develop bilateral ties.

The Iranian minister also pointed to his ministry’s readiness to increase cooperation with the Russian ministry in the oil and gas industry, adding that given the importance of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in the oil industry, the two sides would hold talks in this regard.

Novak, for his part, referred to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Moscow, noting that the presidents of Iran and Russia attached importance to energy as a key topic in bilateral cooperation. He also expressed hope that given the presence of heads of big Russian oil and gas companies in today’s committee meeting, remaining issues in respect to trade and economic issues would be followed up.

As to the role of Tehran and Moscow in OPEC+, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), he emphasized the significance of collaboration between Iran and Russia in these organizations.
