Former Iranian FILA vice president dies at 89

Tehran, IRNA – Former Vice President of the FILA and former member of the board of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Mohammad Tavakkol has passed away at the age of 89.

Tavakkol was born in 1934 in Iran's Qazvin city.

The international wrestling figure, who served as the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Wrestling Federation from 1975 to 1977, was suffering from illness for a long time. He passed away in Tehran on Wednesday.

He was one of the renowned figures of Iranian wrestling in the world, who served as the head of the medical committee of the World Wrestling Federation (former FILA), a member of the board of directors of FILA, and the vice president of the World Wrestling Federation.

His funeral procession will be held on Thursday in Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery in Tehran.
