“With respect to the issue of Palestine, Venezuela has a very clear stance: This is genocide by Israel,” Gil Pinto told reporters on Tuesday after meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian in the Swiss city of Geneva.
He also condemned the Western countries for their silence on the Israeli atrocities against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip and called for a change in international mechanisms of human rights.
“Despite the efforts made by the UN Human Rights Council, they have not been able to stop the killing of women, children and men in Palestine,” Gil Pinto said.
He pointed out that the UN Human Rights Council has “sensitivities” toward countries like Iran and Venezuela, but that is not the case when it comes to Palestine.
It is imperative for the international community to take concrete action to stop the Israeli regime’s genocide in Gaza, Venezuela’s top diplomat added.
Nearly 30,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Gaza and many more wounded since the Israeli regime launched the aggression against the enclave early in October.
