Iraq arrests 2 Deash leaders in operation outside borders

Tehran, IRNA – The Iraqi intelligence agency has reported the arrest of two leaders of the Daesh terror after years of pursuit outside of the country.

The Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS), in a statement on Saturday night, quoted by Baghdad Al-Youm news website, announced that the country’s military and security forces were able to successfully nab and detain the most dangerous Daesh leaders during an operation outside the borders.

Without referring to the country where these people were arrested, the statement noted that the duo was involved in the most heinous terrorist activities in Iraq.

“After years of chasing them abroad, they were arrested and transferred to Baghdad”, it said.

It is stated that the first detainee Essam Abd Ali Sayeedan alias Abu Zaid was responsible for the media activities of Daesh in the city of Fallujah after 2014.

The second is Bashir Abd Ali Sayeedan alias Abu Ahmad Etisalat was responsible for all operations of Daesh in Fallujah and helped the terror group with encryption of communications.

Iraq declared victory over the terrorist group in December 2017 after a three-year counter-terrorism military campaign, in which he People's Mobilization Units (PMU), known in Arabic as Hashd al-Sha’abi, played a major role.

However, Daesh’s remnants are still active in some areas of Diyala, Kirkuk, Nineveh, Salahuddin, Anbar and Baghdad provinces and keep staging sporadic attacks and attempting to regroup to unleash fresh violence in the Arab country.
