Iran condemns US vetoing of UNSC Gaza resolution

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has condemned the United States for vetoing a draft United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution that included a demand for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza where the Israeli regime has been pressing on with an incessant campaign of genocide against the Palestinians.

Kanaani said in a statement on Wednesday that the US decision to block the UNSC resolution drafted by Algeria once again proved that Washington cannot be part of a solution to the crisis in Gaza and in the region.

He said that the US’ excessive use of veto power in the UNSC, which has taken place three times since the start of the war in Gaza in early October, has created a serious challenge for regional and international peace and security.

The spokesman said the vetoing of the resolution vindicated Iran in its stance regarding the role of the US in the genocide of children and women in Gaza by the Israeli regime.

The latest resolution was supported by 13 out of 15 UNSC members while Britain abstained in the vote that was held on Tuesday.
