“The Palestinian Authority (PA) is ready for talks with Hamas, because Hamas is an inseparable part of Palestinian politics, and we [Palestinian factions] should be united in politics,” Shtayyeh said on Sunday at the Munich Security Conference, according to Palestinian media.
He also announced the PA’s readiness to hold elections in all Palestinian territories.
The PA prime minister referred to a “two-state solution” to resolve the decades-long conflict with the Israeli regime, saying, “We need to move from talking about a two-state solution into implementing it”, according to news reports.
Shtayyeh meanwhile confirmed that Russia has invited all Palestinian factions to hold talks in the capital Moscow on February 26.
Shtayyeh’s comments come as the Israeli regime is pressing ahead with its intense military operations in Gaza for the stated goal of annihilating Hamas.
In an interview with Bloomberg in early December, the Palestinian prime minister said that Hamas cannot be eradicated by Israel.
Similar comments have been echoed by incumbent and former Israeli officials who have also criticized prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet for its failure to release captives held by Hamas in Gaza.
