“I had good discussions and consultations with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani”, the Al-Masri Al-Youm website published a statement issued from Herzog’s office.
The statement said that the Qatar prime minister is trying hard and is very focused on the issue of an agreement of prisoners’ swap, a reference to the ongoing negotiations with the involvement of American, Qatari and Egyptian officials on the Gaza ceasefire.
The Zionist regime's i24 website also reported that a number of families of Israeli captives held in Gaza were also present during Herzog's meeting with the Prime Minister of Qatar.
The meeting comes just days after the heads of US and Israeli spy agencies as well as Qatari and Egyptian representatives met in Cairo to resume discussions on a framework of proposal hammered out in the Paris meeting last month.
The Cairo talks however ended inconclusively without a breakthrough.
On Saturday, Ismail Haniyeh, the political bureau chief of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas accused the Israeli regime of lacking a will to agree to a Gaza ceasefire deal.
Haniyeh reiterated the movement’s demands, saying any deal with Israel is impossible without the complete cessation of hostilities, the withdrawal of the occupation army from Gaza, and lifting of the oppressive siege among others.
The proposal for forth in Paris had called for three-phase truce, with each lasting 45 days and seeing the resolution of a number of issues, including prisoner exchange.
