ICJ urged to prevent massacre of Palestinians in Rafah

Tehran, IRNA- South Africa has reportedly requested the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to intervene to prevent further bloodshed of Palestinians in a potential Israeli ground operation in Rafah, a city located in the southern Gaza Strip.

South Africa has acknowledged that it has urged the top UN court in The Hague to take new emergency measures to protect the Palestinians in Rafah, Asharq Al-Awsat reported on Wednesday morning.

According to this report, Pretoria has asked the ICJ to use its power to prevent violations of Palestinian rights in Rafah amid the Zionist regime's intention to expand its military operations in the city.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently announced that the ground invasion of Rafah will begin within the next 2 weeks, sparking condemnation and concern from around the world, including the regime’s American and European backers.

The UN has also warned of new catastrophe, saying almost half of the Gaza population is crammed into Rafah.

The International Court of Justice held two public hearings last month on South Africa's complaint against the Israeli regime for committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza.

The court condemned the Israeli regime’s brutal attack on Gaza and ordered the regime to take measures to prevent the genocide and improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

The ICJ’s interim ruling did not include the cessation of the Zionist regime's war on Gaza that has more than 28,000 lives, mostly women and children.
