Some 2,500  EVs to join Iran's public transportation fleet by late March

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s public transportation fleet is anticipated to receive 2,500 electric vehicles (EVs) by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 19), an official at the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade (MIMT) has announced.

Hassan Karimi Sanjari, the director of the electric cars project at MIMT, made this announcement on Tuesday.

According to MIMT’s website, 600 of the mentioned EVs have already been purchased and cleared from customs. However, 600 EVs are still undergoing customs procedures, while 1,500 more are being transported into the country.

Additionally, two electric car models are scheduled to enter the domestic car market in the next Iranian calendar year, which starts on March 21, 2024.

On December 13, 2023, Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani had stated that some 7,000  EV charging stations would be deployed in the city within the next couple of years.

Tehran launched the first batch of 15 EV charging stations on August 28, 2023.
