Karaj, IRNA – A man has been sentenced to death while three others received long-term prison terms over the murder last year of prominent Iranian director Dariush Mehrjui and his wife Vahideh Mohammadifar.

The chief justice of Alborz Province, Hossein Fazeli-Harikandi, said Monday that the main perpetrator was handed the death penalty while the other three convicts involved in the killing each received a 36-year prison term.

Fazeli-Harikandi noted that the four perpetrators were identified within five days after committing the crime and confessed to it afterward.

“Considering the existence of sufficient evidence against the four defendants present at the murder scene, while reconstructing the crime scene, these defendants confessed to the crimes they committed and the manner in which the murders took place,” he added.

Mehrjui and Mohammadifar were murdered in their home in Alborz province, northern Iran, last October.

He was known for his acclaimed films such as Hamoun, Dayereh Mina, The Cow, Sara, Pari, Leila, Mum’s Guest, and Santouri.
