Yemen: US vessel hit with missiles in Red Sea

Tehran, IRNA – The Yemeni army says it has targeted an American vessel with missiles in response to the ongoing US-led aggression against the country as well as the Israeli regime’s war on Gaza.

Army Spokesman Yahya Saree said in a statement on Monday that the Yemeni armed forces “directly and accurately” hit US vessel Star Iris with missiles in the Red Sea.

He said that the attack was a response to the ongoing US-UK airstrikes on Yemen as well as the Gaza war.

The spokesman said that Yemen will continue its military operations in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea until the regime stops its war on Gaza, and the ongoing aggression against Yemen comes to an end.

Yemen began those operations in mid-November, more than a month after the Zionist regime unleashed its brutal attacks in Gaza.

Yemen says its operations only target Israeli vessels or those heading for ports in the occupied territories and aim to support the Palestinians in Gaza.

On January 11, the US and the UK launched airstrikes on Yemen in response to what they called threats to international shipping. Yemen has rejected their claim, saying vessels, which have no link to the Israeli regime, are freely navigate in the Red Sea.
