Iran diplomat rejects UK tabloid’s spying allegations against IRGC

Tehran, IRNA -- Iran’s chargé d'affaires in London has rejected accusations by a British tabloid that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) is running espionage operations on British soil.

In a message posted on X on Saturday, Mehdi Hosseini Matin likened the accusations by the Daily Mail to “Hollywood adventurism” designed to “entertain” its audience and increase its sales.

“All these ill-advised and groundless allegations are categorically rejected by the Iranian authorities time and time again,” he wrote.

The Daily Mail has alleged that the IRGC is recruiting British Muslims travelling to Iran or Iraq to spy on Iranian “dissidents” and “prominent British Jews.”

The tabloid claimed that the IRGC recruiters approach British Shia Muslims while visiting holy sites on Iran and Iraq.
