The ambassador made the remark in a ceremony held at the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan on the 45th anniversary of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, according to an IRNA report on Wednesday.
The ceremony was held a day earlier and was attended by journalists and experts of Armenian research centers, with the Iranian envoy elaborating on achievements made by his country in the years after the Islamic Revolution as well as Tehran’s principled stance over developments in the Caucasus region.
Sobhani underlined that the Islamic Republic supports the “Crossroads of Peace” project within the framework of international law, countries’ territorial integrity, and respect for the sovereignty of states.
He also said that the 3+3 format, which was agreed on during a conference in Tehran in 2023, is an appropriate mechanism to resolve regional issues. The format includes the three South Caucasus countries of Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan plus Russia, Turkiye, and Iran.
The Iranian ambassador also referred to the International North-South Transport Corridor project, saying that Armenia has a significant position in it, while emphasizing the need for enhancing transport infrastructure as well as decreasing transit tariffs, with the final aim of boosting interactions within that project.
As to the Zangezur corridor project, the diplomat noted that the Islamic Republic calls for removing any blockage and opposes changes to borders while stressing the need to protect national sovereignty of countries.
