Iran censures terror attack in Turkiye

Tehran, IRNA -- Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack that took place outside a courthouse in Istanbul, Turkiye a day earlier.

Kanaani also expressed sympathy with the families of the victims, and wished the injured people a speedy recovery.

He reiterated Iran’s solidarity with the friendly and brotherly country of Turkiye in confronting the “evil phenomenon of terrorism”.

Two attackers, one man and a woman, opened fire on a checkpoint near the Çağlayan Court. They killed two people and injured five others, including three police officers, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on X.

He said that the assailants were killed in a shootout with the police, and that an investigation was underway.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Turkish officials blamed the “terrorist act” on the leftist armed group Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C).
