Some 44 fugitive defendants, convicts returned to Iran in 10 months to Jan.

Tehran, IRNA – Some 44 fugitive defendants and convicts have been repatriated to Iran in the 10 months to January, Secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights Kazem Gharibabadi has said.

The 44 defendants and convicts have been extradited to Iran from Türkiye, Iraq, the UAE, Malaysia, Kuwait, Thailand, Lebanon, Russia, Slovakia, Cyprus, and Armenia from March 21, 2021, to late-January 31, 2024, Gharibabadi said on Wednesday.

The official called on the UAE and Türkiye to cooperate more in the extradition of criminals wanted in Iran.  

Iran has issued 261 extradition requests to other countries over the past three years, he underlined.
