US not seeking naval conflict with Iran: Pentagon

New York, IRNA - The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) says it is not looking for a naval conflict with the Islamic Republic of Iran amid military adventurism by American and British forces in the water off Iran under the pretext of providing security to the international maritime trade.

Sabrina Singh, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Pentagon told reporters on Tuesday evening local time that the US also does not intend to continue attacks against the resistance groups in Iraq and Syria for a long time.

On the US military presence in the Red Sea, this Pentagon spokesman, however called it "the purpose of preserving the freedom of navigation" and emphasized that her country is not looking for a maritime confrontation with Iran.

"The presence of Iranian warships in the Red Sea and carrying out their missions is a natural thing," She said when asked if the United States is concerned about Iranian warships in the strategic waterway.

The Pentagon spokesman also talked about operations by the Yemeni armed forces in the Red Sea and said they have attacked or threatened commercial shipping vessels off the coast of Yemen 41 times, without mentioning the main reason for such attacks and which whips were the target of attacks.

The Yemeni army has time and again announced that Israeli-owned ships and those heading for Israeli ports in the occupied Palestinian territories are target of attacks in the Red and Arabian seas over the regime’s bloodshed in the Gaza Strip.

It says all except Israeli vessels are free to sail through these waterways.

Recently, Yemenis have launched attacks on several American and British ships in retaliation for the joint US-UK airstrikes on the Arab country.

On Tuesday, Two American and British ships were targeted by the Yemeni army in the Red Sea amid escalating tensions in the region over Washington and London’s support for the Zionist regime’s genocidal war on Gaza and their aggression against Yemen.

Spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces Brigadier General Yahya Saree' said later in the day that the country’s naval forces had struck the US-owned Star Nasia bulk carrier and British Morning Tide general cargo ship in the Red Sea.

The latest Pentagon statement on Iran comes a day after another spokesman, Patrick Ryder repeated the anti-Iranian claims that Tehran provide funding, equipment and training to the groups that attack American forces in the region.

This is while, Iran has clarified that it has nothing to do with any attack on US bases and facilities as resistance groups are not being controlled by the Islamic Republic and that their actions are based on own decisions.

The Islamic Republic recently also warned that it is not seeking a war or conflict but will respond firmly and decisively if there is any attack on its soil, interests and nationals.
