US military bases in Syria on hit list of resistance groups

Tehran, IRNA – A US military base in eastern Syria has come under second missile attack since Saturday hours after American warplanes hit the war-torn Arab country in what Washington claimed was in reaction to last weekend’s deadly drone attack on its military base in Jordan.

Al-Mayadeen news channel has reported that at least eight rockets were fired overnight on Sunday toward the US military base at the Koniko gas field in eastern Syria.

A few hours ago, the same American base was targeted by a missile. There was no immediate report of damage or casualties from both the attacks.

Since early Saturday, the Islamic Resistance of Iraq has targeted four US bases in Syria namely Ain al-Asad, Harir, Kharab Al-Jeer and Koniko, in response to the US aggression against areas in the two countries under the pretext of the Jordan base attack.

United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday morning the American warplanes had targeted 85 positions in Syria and Iraq using more than 125 precision munitions in response to the killing of three soldiers in the northeast of Jordan.

Iraqi resistance groups condemned the US airstrikes , with the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), better known as Hashd al-Sha’abi isaid in a statement that the US bombardment constituted a flagrant violation of the Iraqi sovereignty, as it targeted sites belonging to state security institutions.

“These attacks violated the sovereignty and aimed to weaken the Baghdad government in order to establish stability in the country, " Yahya Rasool, the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces said.

The Iraqi government also denounced the act of aggression, emphasizing that the US-led coalition has exceeded the mandate and powers assigned to it and has become a threat to the security and stability of Iraq. Baghdad also summoned the charge d'affaires of the Washington embassy to lodge official protest against the US aggression.

Syria also condemned the attacks on its soil, saying the US targeted areas where the country’s military and its allies have been fighting with the remnants of the Daesh terror group. Damascus said the attacks showed that the US, which itself maintains its illegal military presence, is colluding with terrorists in Syria.
