US can’t ask regional nations to show restraint over Gaza genocide: Iranian official

Tehran, IRNA -- The Iranian foreign minister's senior advisor for special political affairs Ali-Asghar Khaji has said that the US cannot ask Iran and other regional countries to show self-restraint while it provides the Zionist regime with weapons and manages the war in Gaza.

Khaji made the comment on Saturday as he held talks with the United Nations special envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg in Tehran on Saturday.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in the region, especially in Yemen, hoping that the progress achieved in Yemen's political affairs would reach final results.

Pointing out to the Israeli genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, Khaji emphasized that the people and governments of the region cannot be expected to remain indifferent to the crimes being committed against Gazans.

The Iranian diplomat welcomed the recent progress made in peace negotiations in Yemen, expressing hope that the UN-backed talks between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's National Salvation Government are concluded successfully so that the difficult humanitarian situation currently faced by the people of Yemen comes to an end.

Grundberg, on his part, elaborated on UN efforts to establish peace in Yemen.
