Iran, Uzbek diplomats review expansion of mutual ties

Tehran, IRNA - Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani and Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov have conferred on the broadening of bilateral relations.

Bagheri Kani met and held talks with Saidov in Uzbekistan on Thursday.

During the meeting, the two sides emphasized the determination of the two countries’ presidents to develop ties, while reviewing the areas of cooperation, and considered the future of relations as bright and hopeful.

Bagheri Kani underlined that the peace and stability of the region depends on cooperation and interaction, and securing lasting peace required consolidation of economic ties.

He said regular joint economic commissions and political consultations between the two countries was necessary to achieve the stated goals set by the president of Iran and Uzbekistan, chief among them boosting the volume of trade to $1 billion.

Saidov, for his part, called cultural and historical commonalities as an important factor in developing ties in various fields between the two countries.

He noted that the joint plan of action to achieve the goals of the signed documents between the presidents of the two countries is on their agenda, and foreign ministries will play a pivotal role in the realization of those goals and plans.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the most important regional and international issues as well. The parties also called for a halt to the Israeli killing of the oppressed people of Gaza.
