Not looking for war with Iran or any regional side: US

New York, IRNA – The US State Department rejected his country’s plan for any war or conflict with Iran or any other party in the Middle East region but reiterated that Washington is bound to take necessary action to defend its interests.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, State Department spokesman, Matthew Miller, said that a war is not in the interest of the United States. He made the remark in response to a question that the chief commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps had announced that any attack on Iran will face a decisive response.

Miller refused to comment when asked that if the Iranian statements will lead to a review of the US policy with regard to a response on the killing of three soldiers in an attack on an American base in Jordan on Sunday.

“We are aware of the positions of all countries and institutions in the region. The US president and his security team consider all these issues in making decisions. But we have clearly said that we will hold accountable only those who are responsible for attacking American forces”, he said, without naming any country or group.

The spokesperson also denied reports of sending direct and indirect messages to Iran but said Tehran knows very well that we are not seeking to escalate tensions in the region. We want the attacks on our forces and interests to stop.

Over the past couple of days, American officials have been issuing conflicting statements, often blaming Iran for its involvement with the group that carried out an attack on the US base. They, including President Joe Biden warned that “the response to the targeting of American soldiers will be in an appropriate manner and probably in the form of multiple measures”.

Iran, on the other hand has distanced itself from any attack on US bases or interests in the region, saying resistance forces are not being controlled by the Islamic Republic nor they take order from Tehran for any of their actions.

Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, Major General Hossein Salami, on Tuesday also said that his country is not seeking war but is ready for any scenario and that the armed forces would respond decisively if there is any attack on Iran and its interests. Salami was reacting to threat-quoting words being issued by American officials and their blame-game on the US base attack.
