Iran won the game against Syria in the penalties after the two sides draw 1-1 in normal and extra time of the match held in Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on Wednesday.
Mehdi Taremi scored a penalty for Iran in the 34th minute of the match before Syria’s Omar Khribin leveled the game in the 64th minute.
Taremi received a second yellow card in the match in the 90th minute to be sent off from the pitch.
Iran will face Japan in the quarterfinals of the tournament on February 3.
