Explosion heard on Iraq-Syria border: Unofficial sources

Tehran, IRNA – An explosion has reportedly been heard on the border between Iraq and Syria amid repeated warnings from American officials about a response to Sunday’s deadly drone strike on a US base in Jordan.

There is no official confirmation of the news that has cited some local sources as saying that the explosion occurred somewhere on the border between Iraq and Syria.

Unofficial sources also did not give the exact location of the blast.

Iraq and Syria have been repeatedly targeted by US and Israeli airstrikes under different pretexts, including resistance groups in the two countries working against the interest of Washington and Tel Aviv.

In response, resistance groups in the region, Iraq in particular, have launched dozens of attacks on US bases and military facilities as well as some on Israeli targets. Those attacks have intensified since the Zionist regime, backed by the United States, launched its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in early October, 2023.

An official from the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced on Tuesday that American bases have been attacked at least 165 times in Iraq and Syria since mid-October.

The official said that those attacks include the one carried out on a base in Jordan, near Syrian border on Sunday that left three soldiers dead and 40 others injured.
