Daryoush Golalizadeh, the head of Iran’s National Air and Climate Change Center, which is a subsidiary of the country’s Department of Environment, said on Monday that displacement because of climate change in could lead to security problems in Iran in the future.
Some 300 flash floods have occurred in Iran over the past 12 years, Golalizadeh said while addressing an international conference on climate change in the capital of Tehran, adding that the floods have been mainly caused by the destruction of vegetation in the upstream of watersheds.
The official said that climate change is a serious challenge for Iran that requires special attention in making major policies for the country.
