Iran FM, Pakistan army chief confer on security cooperation

Islamabad, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and Pakistani Army Chief Syed Asim Munir have discussed the latest developments in mutual ties including security and border cooperation.

Amirabdollahian, who arrived in Islamabad late on Sunday at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart Jalil Abbas Jilani, met and held talks with General Syed Asim Munir on Monday.

The top Iranian diplomat and the Pakistani general reviewed the latest developments in the region, including the continued crimes committed by the Zionist regime in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Public Relations Office of the Pakistani Army, the two officials considered terrorism as a common threat which needs joint efforts, enhanced coordination, and intelligence sharing in order to be eradicated.

General Munir highlighted the importance of sustained engagement and using available communication channels to address security concerns.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to closely engage with each other and prevent any attempts aimed at creating separation between the two nations.

Earlier in the day, the top Iranian diplomat met and held talks with his Pakistani counterpart in Islamabad.

Amirabdollahian, who is leading a high-level political, military, and security delegation, left Tehran’s Meharabad airport late on Sunday where he was seen off by Pakistan’s new ambassador to Iran Muhammad Mudassir Tipu.
