Enemies want to disrupt Iran-Pakistan ties: Islamabad

Islamabad, IRNA – Pakistani Foreign Minister, Jalil Abbas Jilani says common enemies of Iran and Pakistan are trying to sow the seed of discord between the two neighboring countries through “terrorist acts”.

In a message posted on his official X account, Jilani expressed regret over the death of 9 Pakistani nationals following an attack by unidentified armed assailants in Saravan, a town across the border in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchistan province, early Saturday.

“The action is yet an attempt to disrupt Pakistan-Iran relations by our common enemies”, he said in his post.

While offering condolences to the families of the victims, Jilani asked the Iranian government to take firm actions against the perpetrators of the attacks.

Calling the attack “terrorist incident”, the Pakistan’s foreign ministry separately said that it is in touch with Iranian authorities and has asked Tehran to investigate the incident thoroughly.

Meanwhile, newly-appointed Pakistani ambassador to Tehran, Muhammad Mudassir Tipi, also expressed shock over the killing of his country’s nationals in the Iranian border town.

“Deeply shocked by horrifying killing of 9 Pakistanis in Saravan. Embassy will extend full support to bereaved families,” the Pakistani envoy said on the social media platform X on Saturday.

“We called upon Iran to extend full cooperation in the matter,” he added.

The shooting occurred as officials in Iran and Pakistan are working to normalize ties after recent cross-border missile attacks, which the two countries said, were aimed at terror groups operating on each other’s soil.

The shootings also occurred ahead of a planned visit on Monday to Pakistan by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart, Jalil Abbas Jilani.
