US carries out new airstrike on Yemen

Tehran, IRNA – The US Military has conducted a new strike on Yemen amid escalating tensions in West Asia over the Israeli regime’s war against Palestinians in Gaza.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced early on Saturday that its new strike hit an anti-ship missile of Houthis, a term Western states and media use for Yemen’s Ansarullah Movement, which is part of the resistance front in West Asia and is in control of some parts of Yemen including the capital Sana’a.

CENTCOM made the announcement on its X account, formerly Twitter, and claimed that the missile had presented an imminent threat to navigation in the Red Sea and American forces in the region.

“On Jan. 27 at approximately 3:45 a.m. (Sanaa time), U.S. Central Command Forces conducted a strike against a Houthi anti-ship missile aimed into the Red Sea and which was prepared to launch. U.S. Forces identified the missile in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, and determined it presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and the U.S. Navy ships in the region.”

CENTCOM also said that its strike was aimed at protecting international shipping.

“U.S. Forces subsequently struck and destroyed the missile in self-defense. This action will protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. Navy vessels and merchant vessels.”

The US, along with the United Kingdom, stated the same claims when they launched airstrikes on Yemen more than two weeks ago. Since then, the two Western states have conducted several rounds of airstrikes against the Arab country.

Yemen has been conducting military operations in the Red Sea since mid-November but has made it clear that its operations only target Israeli-linked ships and are aimed at forcing the regime to stop its genocide in Gaza and allow basic supplies into the besieged Palestinian territory.

Despite the US-UK strikes, which Yemen has labeled as an of aggression, the Arab country has continued its attacks on Israeli vessels or ships bound for ports in the occupied Palestinian territories, as it has promised to keep supporting Gazans until the ongoing brutal war against them comes to an end.
