Islamabad, IRNA – Pakistani Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani has said that the upcoming visit by his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian to Islamabad is a step toward consolidating mutual anti-terrorism cooperation.

Jilani told IRNA’s correspondent on the sidelines of the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan in Islamabad on Thursday that the Iranian foreign minister was officially invited to visit Pakistan last week, and that the two countries will use this opportunity to enhance bilateral relations.

According to the top Pakistani diplomat, Tehran and Islamabad enjoy a very close and amicable relationship.

The Pakistani FM also underlined that he is very pleased with Amirabdollahian’s trip, adding that Pakistan expects promising results from the visit.

Iran and Pakistan issued a joint statement on January 15, announcing the return of their ambassadors to their missions in each other’s capitals, and that Amirabdollahian will visit Islamabad on January 29.

Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune quoted high-ranking diplomats on Thursday as saying that the visit will help shape the future strategy of the two countries in the fight against insecurity along common borders and the challenge of terrorism.
