The current capacity is an increase by 30 percent since August 2021 when the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi took office, Kamani said at a press conference in Tehran on Wednesday, in response to a question by IRNA.
He added that several renewable power plants, with a total capacity of 11,000 MW, are under construction that will significantly increase the total capacity of these types of power plants in Iran.
Kamani, who is also the deputy energy minister, further said that the renewable power plants can be easily connected to the national grid for up to a capacity of 15,000 MW.
For higher capacities, he added, certain measures, including dispatching systems exclusive to renewable power plants, are required to be taken.
Thanks to its geographical location, Iran is capable of generating a significant amount of power through renewable resources such as wind or the sun.
