Hamed Monkersi, the deputy head of Iran’s Information Technology Organization, said in a social media post on Tuesday that a survey conducted by the Iranian Students Polling Agency shows that the Iranian people are meeting their social media needs through domestic messengers.
He said that the average traffic of Iranian domestic messengers has grown by five-fold, adding that this growth includes a significant increase in both the number of subscribers and daily interactions.
The official added that some messengers have posted a much bigger growth, like Ita messenger which has witnessed a nine-fold increase in the number of subscribers and 15-fold rise in the traffic.
Iranian officials have been seeking to cut reliance on foreign messengers after their role in the country’s 2022 protests which followed the death of a young woman at a police custody.
