Amir-Abdollahian hosted Moussa Kharfi, the Deputy Speaker of the Algerian Parliament and the head of the Algerian-Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Group and exchanged views on bilateral and international issues as well as discussed ways to expand cooperation between the two countries.
Amir-Abdollahian told the Algerian delegation that the two sides should work to enhance the cooperation to a higher level.
“In our foreign policy, we attach great importance and priority to developing relations with African nations, especially Algeria, and the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the upcoming OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) summit in Algeria an important event and will actively participate in it”, he said.
While hailing the Algerian nation in their fight against the French colonialism and achieving independence, the top Iranian diplomat also praised the North African country, its parliament and the government for their “honest support” for the people of Palestine and Gaza, calling it (Algeria) a model for other Islamic countries.
For his part, the Algerian deputy speaker expressed his gratitude for Iran’s hospitality and also expressed grief over recent terrorist attacks in the Iranian city of Kerman. “I express my condolences on behalf of the National Assembly and the people of Algeria over the heinous terrorist attacks in Kerman that led to the loss of innocent lives.”
On Palestine, Kharfi said that the issue is of strategic importance for Algeria without a doubt. “The Algerian nation sacrificed more than one and a half million people to achieve independence and freedom from French colonialism. We are confident that Palestine will be victorious and the blood of martyrs is the price of freedom”, he said.
Kharfi also referred to a meeting between Iranian and Algerian presidents at the United Nations and said the two countries pursue more seriously to expand relations in all political, legislative and economic fields, especially energy, health and agriculture.
