US sanctions should not impede Iran-Japan ties: Raisi

Tehran, IRNA -- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has highlighted the resilience of Iran-Japan relations, saying the oppressive sanctions imposed by the West should not be an impediment to the expansion of ties between Tehran and Tokyo.

President Raisi made the remarks on Sunday as he received the credentials of the new Japanese ambassador to Tehran, Tsukada Tamaki.

The president emphasized the longstanding, deep, and progressive ties between Iran and Japan, and said the Islamic Republic plans to enhance relations in various fields with the Asian country.

He underscored that the unjust sanctions against the Islamic Republic have not yielded success for the United States and should not hinder the expansion of bilateral ties between Iran and Japan.

“Today, wherever there is unrest, conflict, or war, the footprint of the United States is visible. From the use of atomic bombs against the people of Japan to the current crimes against the people of Gaza, the US plays a central and fundamental role,” Raisi said.

Ambassador Tsukada Tamaki conveyed the warmest regards of the Japanese Emperor and prime minister to President Raisi.

He expressed Japan's interest in expanding relations with the Islamic Republic.
