Governor general of Iran’s East Azerbaijan prov. dies at 57

Tabriz, IRNA – The governor general of Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province, Zeinolabedin Khorram-Razavi, has passed away at the age of 57.

Khorram Razavi, a war veteran and a former military advisor serving in Syria, passed away on Saturday, according to a press release by the Public Relations Department of his office.

He had been hospitalized at Imam Reza Hospital in Tabriz, the capital city of the northwestern East Azerbaijan province, for lung problems sustained during the eight-year imposed war on Iran by the former Iraqi Baath regime in the 1980s.

The late official had also suffered from a respiratory infection resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Khorram Razavi was born in the town of Shahin Dezh, West Azerbaijan province. He was an advocate of the 1979 Islamic Revolution since his teen years and had a strong presence on the battlefield during the 1980s imposed war.

He had a BA in planning management and an MA in strategic management and was appointed as governor-general of East Azerbaijan on October 17, 2021.

Before that, the late official served for 11 years as commander and deputy commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) branches in East and West Azerbaijan provinces.

Khorram Razavi also served as an IRGC advisor in Syria where he was held captive by the Daesh terrorist group for eight months.
