The political office of Ansarullah reacted in a statement on Wednesday night, calling the US re-designation of the movement as a terrorist organization a desperate attempt on the part of Washington to tarnish the image of the Yemeni nation.
“This action has no value as Washington is the main cause of the pain and suffering of the Yemeni nation”, Al Jazeera quoted the statement from the political office of Ansarullah.
Earlier, Ansarullah spokesman, Mohammed Abdul-Salam also denounced the move, saying America is pursuing its political goals by putting our name on the terrorism list. "Such actions will not hinder Yemen's support for the Palestinian nation rather make us more committed to our stance in supporting the Palestinians", he said.
Abdul-Salam clarified that the Yemeni army’s actions in the Red Sea against Israeli-linked vessels was a kind of pressure to stop the regime’s war on Gaza, and this US action will not deter Yemenis from supporting the Palestinians.
Hamas decries ‘US bias’
The Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas, in a statement on Wednesday, categorically condemned the United States for re-listing Yemen's Ansarullah as terrorist, calling it a political move and clear bias toward the occupying Zionist regime.
In a statement, Hamas said Ansarullah's inclusion in the US terrorist list is Washington's explicit support for Tel Aviv. “This action is also an attempt to cover up the barbaric crimes and genocide of the Zionist regime in the Gaza Strip”, said the statement cited by the Palestinian "Sama" news agency.
Hamas stated that this immoral act once again proved that the administration of US President Joe Biden is aligned with the expansionist plans of the Israeli regime in Palestine and the region.
“American policies will never stop the Arab and free nations of the world from expressing their solidarity with the Palestinian nation until the decline and destruction of the occupying regime and the fulfillment of the desires of this nation, including freedom and self-determination”, Hamas stated.
The Palestinian resistance movement also hailed Yemen and Ansarullah and all the resistance groups for supporting Palestine and al-Quds and called for the united stand to confront “the barbaric Zionist enemy”.
US desperation
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement has called Washington's action to re-list Yemen's Ansarullah in the terrorism list a collective punishment for the Yemeni people.
“We are fully confident that the main motive behind the US action is to punish the Yemeni people for their support for the Palestinians in Gaza”, Islamic Jihad issued a statement quoted by the Sama news agency.
The Palestinian resistance groups said however that the US action will never weaken the determination and strength of the Yemeni nation.
“By resorting to such measures, which have often failed, the American government still seeks to dominate the nations and uses terrorism as a pretext to achieve this goal”, the resistance group added.
The Islamic Jihad, in its statement, called the Yemeni people and the Ansarullah Movement brothers and said that they have proved their courage by standing with the Palestinian nation “in confronting the Zionist-American enemy”.
US regional game
Angry reactions followed the US State Department’s announcement that Washington would include the Ansarullah movement in its list of terrorist groups.
“In response to these continuing threats and attacks, the United States announced the designation of Ansarallah, also known as the Houthis, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist,” Jake Sullivan, White House National Security Advisor said in statement.
Officials said the move means the Yemeni movement will be hit by sanctions but added that the designation that would take effect in 30 days could also be reversed if Yemenis cease their attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
As part of their support for Palestinians, Yemen's armed forces have over the past month targeted over two dozen ships owned by Israel or bound for ports in the occupied territories.
Yemen says the measure is meant to help bring a halt to the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza, which has so far killed over 24,000 people, mostly women and children. However, the US and its allies have portrayed Yemen’s attack as a threat to international peace.
Last week, American and British warplanes, ships, and submarines launched dozens of airstrikes against Yemen, prompting criticism from Iran, Russia, Turkey, and several other countries.
The United States, the United Kingdom were accused of acts of aggression against Yemen, with some countries saying that Washington and London bear full responsibility for the violation of international law.
Meanwhile, the Yemeni army not only denounced the joint US-UK attacks on the Arab country but reaffirmed that its actions in the Red Sea will continue as long as the Zionist regime keeps spilling the blood of innocent Palestinians and maintains its blockade on the Gaza Strip.
