Israeli cabinet allocates $15 billion for Gaza war despite budget deficit

Tehran, IRNA- The far-right coalition cabinet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved 15 billion dollars more for the Gaza war despite indications that the regime’s economy is struggling.

The Netanyahu office confirmed the news on Monday about the cabinet’s approval of a revised draft of the 2024 budget, a major part of which is for military affairs and compensation for those affected in the Gaza war.

"We have changed the priorities so that every reserve military force and personnel, as well as their families, should know our supports for them," Bezalel Yoel Smotrich, the Finance Minister of the Zionist regime said after the approval of amended budget after a day-long debate in the cabinet.

According to Israeli media reports, a number of Israeli ministers walked out the cabinet meeting in protest against provisions of the 2024 budget plan, leading to the failure to approve the draft last night.

“Despite Netanyahu’s pledge to continue the cabinet session until reaching the agreement on the budget draft, the meeting quickly turned tense and the cabinet members insulted each other, with some leaving the place angrily”, report said.

Some ministers were worried over reduction of the budget to other sectors.  Shlomo Karai, the Minister of Communications also warned in a letter to Netanyahu that the reduction of the budget of his ministry could endanger the lives of Israelis.

According to some reports, the war on Gaza costs the Zionist regime some $269 million per day that has already aggravated the economic crisis, with the central bank chief warning to the prime minister about the complexity of the crisis.

Previously, Israel’s Ministry of Economy also predicted that the Gaza war would leave a budget deficit of about 18 billion dollars for this regime.
