Iran president stresses implementation of agreements with India

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has urged the need for implementation of agreements already signed with India, including on the development of Chabahar Port in southeastern Iran.

The president made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran on Monday with Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

President Raisi also stressed the need for India to make compensations for the delays in the agreements with Iran.

Referring to longstanding relations between Iran and India, the president highlighted the urgency for more enhanced relations between the two countries on political, economic, scientific, transportation and energy areas.

During the meeting, the two officials also discussed more cooperation on the establishment of stability and security in Afghanistan, conducting bilateral trade in national currencies, while highlighting the need to safeguard security of shipping in international waters.

Referring to the Zionist “war crimes” in Gaza, the Iranian president said that India can play a significant role in putting an end to the bombardments, lifting of the siege and preserving the rights of the Palestinian people.

The Indian foreign minister, for his part, hailed President Raisi’s resolve to give a boost to relations with regional countries and creating a breakthrough in relations with India.

He also voiced his country’s eagerness for reaching a long-term comprehensive cooperation deal with Iran.
