Biden in a statement posted on the White House website on Sunday, said that his administration has been seeking the return of Israeli captives through diplomacy since October 7, without mentioning the return of Palestinians illegally held in Israeli jails for months and years.
The US president also tried to take credit for the return of two Americans freed by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas in October. Biden said his action paid off their return, adding that the US also coordinated closely with Qatar, Egypt and the Israeli regime for a seven-day ceasefire and the release of 105 captives in November.
He further emphasized that the recent visit of Anthony Blinken, the Secretary of State to the West Asian region was aimed at striking an agreement for the release of all captives.
The Israeli regime and its main backer the United States are under intense pressure as they have failed so far to get captives freed despite flattening Gaza with aerial and ground bombardments.
According to the Israeli regime, some 240 people were taken captive by Hamas on October 7 when the Palestinian resistance movement launched its unprecedented Operation Al-Aqsa Storm.
Israel has been witnessing protests almost on a daily basis, with people calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the return of Israeli captives from Gaza.
