In the quarter-final stage, Hedayati overpowered the world silver and bronze medalist, Oscar Pino Hinds, from Cuba to reach the semi-final, in which, the Iranian wrestler won against Mantas Knystautas, the world bronze medalist from Lithuania, with a score of 8-0 and qualified for the finals.
Iran participated in the Zagreb tournament with 4 representatives, where Alireza Mohammadi won the silver medal in the 87 kg event. Amir Abdi and Seyed Daniyal Sohrabi, two other Iranian wrestlers faced eliminations after being defeated by their rivals.
