In a verdict on October 22, Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Elahe Mohammadi and Niloofar Hamedi to 12 and 13 years of imprisonments, respectively.
They have been temporarily released after paying bail awaiting their appeal verdict.
The two are, however, banned from leaving the country.
Art. 131 of Iran’s Islamic Penal Code requires that in punishable crimes, if a single behavior has multiple criminal titles, the perpetrator will be sentenced to severe punishment and since the main charge of the two is having links with the US government, if the court of appeal confirms the initial ruling, Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi will be sentenced to seven years and six years behind bars, respectively.
