Zionist regime to appear before ICJ on genocide charges on Thursday

Tehran, IRNA – The Zionist regime of Israel is to appear before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on January 11-12 for public hearings in South Africa's genocide case against the regime.

The ICJ is to consider South Africa’s genocide case against the Zionist regime as well as its request for an emergency stoppage of the Zionist military operation against the Gaza Strip.

South Africa argues that the Zionist operation in Gaza is aimed at ethnic cleansing in the Palestinian region.

South Africa and the Zionist regime are both signatories to the Genocide Convention, what gives the ICJ the legal jurisdiction to deal with the case.

All the signatories to the convention are required not to commit genocide and prevent and condemn any act of genocide.

The case will probably last for years but South Africa has also called on the ICJ to issue binding orders for immediate stoppage of the Zionist invasion of Gaza.
