Belgian deputy PM calls for joining S. Africa's ICJ's bid against Israeli regime

Tehran, IRNA – Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter has urged the government in her country to join a complaint by South Africa against the Zionist regime of Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Sutter wrote on X that she wants her country to “take action” at the ICJ to prevent genocide in Gaza where Israel has been killing Palestinians since early October, Al Jazeera news channel reported on Tuesday.

She said she will suggest that Belgium officially supports South Africa's complaint against Israel.

“Belgium cannot stand by and watch the immense human suffering in Gaza. We must act against the threat of genocide. I want Belgium to take action at the International Court of Justice, following the lead of South Africa. I will propose this within the Belgian government.”

South Africa filed a complaint with the ICJ in November to hold the regime accountable for its war crimes in Gaza.

More than 23,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children and women, have been killed and about 60,000 have been injured in Gaza since October 7, 2023, when Israel launched its aggression on the enclave.
