IRGC chief hails combat capabilities of Abu Mahdi warship

Bandar Abbas, IRNA – Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Saturday that the combat patrol warship Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis can fight on its own and has all the components required for succeeding in battles.

Major General Hossein Salaami made the remarks at the 12th ceremony of adding new equipment to the IRGC Navy in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

“Today is a great and historic day for the proud nation of Iran, the day that the IRGC Navy, as the pioneer of the defensive power of the Islamic Republic of Iran against world powers, has made headway in its offensive and defensive power,” he said.

Salaami further said that the Islamic Republic, having realized the importance of the sea as a decisive stage of battle, is dedicated to the development and completion of its sea power that is distinct from those of conventional sea powers.

Both the IRGC and the Army have developed naval maps with the assumption that the Islamic Republic would face the biggest naval powers of the world, he said.

He added that the IRGC Navy must be able to reach any point where the enemy is standing so as to fight the enemy at a distance from home.

During the ceremony, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis combat patrol warship, four Zolfaqar vessels equipped with missile launchers, and five Ashura vessels equipped with Kowsar air defense missile launchers were added to the IRGC Navy.

Five Ashura torpedo launchers, nine Mersad combat reconnaissance vessels, one coastal vessel, one Tareq medium-range surface-to-surface missile launcher, and two Ashura command vessels with carbon hulls are among the other equipment delivered to the force.

The rocket launchers also include two 40-barrel tactical rocket launchers, twenty 8-barrel rocket launchers, and twelve tactical barrage mortars.
