Majid Emadi, a board member of the Association of Iranian Importers of Pesticides and Fertilizers, told reporters on Saturday that Iran has a total of 68 world-ranked agricultural products.
He cited official statistics which say Iran has about 12 million hectares of land under agronomic production with 2.5 million hectares under horticultural cultivation, adding that the country is ranked 1st to 10th in the world in more than 20 products despite continuous droughts.
Iran is the world’s second largest pistachio supplier following the United States, producing some 130-140 thousand tons of the product annually, Emadi said.
Referring to the drought in Iran, he said that FAO reports put Iran’s average precipitation between 250 and 260 mm a year while the average world precipitation is reported between 800 and 860 annually.
